Dover is most famously the landing place for continental visitors and is remarkable for its White cliffs, but the rest of Kent is rightly called the Garden of England. Further south in East Sussex is the Historical towns of Hastings and Battle where William the Conquer was victorious in his quest for England.
The main reason to visit Canterbury, near Dover, is the impressive and evocative Canterbury cathedral, easily England's finest, and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, thead of the Protestant Christian Church. A number of architectural styles are reflected here. Immortalised by Geoffrey Chaucer in the Canterbury Tales. Canterbury itself was severely damaged by bombing in WWII and parts of the town have been insensitively rebuilt, but it still attracts flocks of tourists.
