A cosmopolitan coastal city, Limassol is a major port, an important tourist resort and wine industry centre. Renowned for its extensive hotel accommodation, horde of nightspots, taverns and restaurants, it is the vacation hub of the island. Beyond the beaches it also has worthy Archaeological and Folk Art museum, while those with a nose for history can head to Curium, one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus. The impressive mosaics in the Villa of Eustolios are worth seeing, and high on the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean is the reconstructed Greco-Roman theatre used for theatrical and musical performances.
